Sooo... this was brought to my attention: drag day rant
And since it's local and I'm, well, questioning everything at the moment, the topic kinda concerns me. And since I can't comment directly on the thread because I'm not a member of that community (nor am I sure I would want to be given the level of close-mindedness that I see...) I'll comment here.
If I were a student at Kish, I would definately cross dress for the drag day. I really think that it would help raise awareness. Hell, I did it for Halloween and Pajama Day at the writing center at NIU. I felt really comfortable as a girl. In those two experiences, sitting there running reception, I got complimented by guys and girls alike. I felt accepted.
I think that popular culture is helping raise awareness and acceptance of the LGBT community. Everything from Glee to Adam Lambert to Captain Jack Harkness. It's there. It's in movies and TV shows. It's popular. Well, popular for people my age and younger at least.
